Host/Support Staff/Relief Supervisor

Full-time, Host Shifts $15.50 - Supervisor Shifts $17.50/hr

POSITION TITLE: Host/Support Staff/Relief Supervisor

REPORTS TO: RESTAURANT MANAGER

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Delta Hotel by Marriott Kingston Waterfront Hotel is home to the award-winning restaurant, AquaTerra that serves picturesque waterfront views and the most beautiful, delicious dishes using fresh and local ingredients. Along with our amazing dishes, we strive to hire amazing talent to be part of our team in holding up our standards for our guests. AquaTerra is looking to hire an individual to take on the unique role of a part-time Host-Support Staff, and part-time Relief Supervisor.

This interesting role will allow you to be the face of AquaTerra. You will engage with guests by greeting and seating them, ensuring a welcoming and pleasant experience for them, preparing to-go orders, as well as supervising and coordinating breakfast, lunch and/or dinner operations for the success of the hotel and brand standards. The successful candidate will be scheduled shifts either as a Host-Support Staff where needed and be scheduled as a supervisor when needed as a relief in absence of the restaurant manager.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Host-Support Staff

  • Creating a positive, professional, and approachable impression at all times

  • Controlling the flow of the dining room and lounge

  • Operation of the computerized point-of-sale system

  • Assign tables and seat guests with menus

  • Prepare and complete guests orders from our Grab ‘n Go bar, take-out meals, etc.

  • Demonstrate hotel and brand standards at all times

  • Preparing tables for new guests

  • Maintaining the cleanliness of the host stand and area

  • Provide current information for guests on promotions, events, and the local community

Relief Supervisor:

  • Monitor quality of service by observing or asking customers about needs; resolve customer complaints about service, food quality, etc. by assessing problem and taking immediate action

  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and report any areas of concern to the Food & Beverage Manager for follow-up

  • Checking food & beverage quality, restaurant services, plate presentation, and appearance and cleanliness of the dining room and lounge area

  • Review the days’ reservations activity working as required with the Food & Beverage Manager to discuss scheduling options

  • Ensuring proper staffing for the day, assign staff working sections

  • Forecast and determine when customer volume requires adding or re-assigning staff and making adjustments accordingly.

  • Advise Chef or items requiring re-order

  • Provide change for the AquaTerra bar float from the main float. Report to management if a coin order is required to restock small bills.

  • Receive any wine or liquor orders on behalf of management if they are unavailable.

  • Operate and function the online reservation system

  • Provide input to the manager regarding job performance for review purposes of staff

  • Record in Shift Notes daily activities of the floor during your shift

  • Establish and maintain effective professional, courteous, constructive relationships with guests, staff, and management team

  • Promote teamwork, intercultural competency among team members, quality guest service through education, effective communication, and coordination with other departments

  • Supports and promotes a culture of equity, diversity, inclusion, and ingenuity that respects and incorporates different perspectives

QUALIFICATIONS & JOB SPECIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent

  • Previous server/host experience

  • Minimum 2 years’ experience in a supervisory/management experience, preferably in a restaurant setting

  • Smart Serve certification required

  • Must be flexible to workdays, evenings, weekends, holidays

  • Excellent interpersonal and employee relations skills

  • Strong decision-making and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work under pressure while maintaining tact and diplomacy

  • Must possess the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse team environment.

  • Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multicultural environment with co-workers, managers, and guests.

  • Possess a high degree of enthusiasm, initiative, and professionalism
