Host/Hostess
POSITION TITLE: HOST/HOSTESS
REPORTS TO: RESTAURANT MANAGER
WAGE: $15/hour + tips
POSITION OVERVIEW:
Your primary responsibility is to greet both arriving and departing guests, seat guests in a friendly manner and assist in maintaining the overall guest flow of the restaurant within the Marriott Brand Standards of service. You will also lend support with day-to-day administrative duties including written correspondence, verbal communications, and calendar management with a focus on client satisfaction. Your professionalism, passion and commitment to teamwork will contribute to inspiring others.
KEY AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Efficient operation of our front door
Controlling the flow of the dining room and lounge
Creating a positive first impression for our guests through a warm welcome and engaging interactions
Maintaining the cleanliness and organization of the host stand and area
Preparing tables for new guests
Seating guests with menus
Adhere to health & safety guidelines at all times
Providing current information to our guests on our promotions and events and the local community
Operation of the computerized point of sale system
Effectively handles customer inquiries and bookings for Aquaterra group events.
Accurately gathers all event details to include meeting room set up, food and beverage requirements, audio/visual requirements and co-ordinates with the other departments in the hotel (Banquets) to ensure successful event and all of the guests’ needs are met
Provides quality service to guests by responding to their requests promptly, efficiently and courteously, demonstrating problem resolution

KEY PERFORMANCE INDICATORS:
Consistent adherence to the Marriott brand standards of service
Can successfully carry out proper telephone etiquette
Ability to control the flow of the restaurant to ensure that the kitchen is not backed up with orders. This assists with a smoother kitchen flow and positive guest experience.
Ability to maintain consistent with initial greetings at host stand
Restaurant knowledge- menus, daily features, available private rooms, etc.
Website knowledgeable to navigate through the restaurant website, use OpenTable and explain to guests our online booking process, etc.
Hotel knowledge- groups on site, parking available, lost and found policy, rooms, etc.
Ability to promote our private dining space and turn inquiries into reservations
Gathering of thorough and detailed information from the client for private events to pass along to the Restaurant Manager for follow up and finalization
Managing goodbyes to every guest on their way out
Knowledgeable of host templates for taking large bookings
Can adequately map out the floor plan for the day
QUALIFICATIONS:
Previous customer service experience preferred
Smart Serve certification an asset
Must be friendly, outgoing, and be a team player
Strong interpersonal skills
Must be flexible to work days, evenings, weekends, and holidays
Must possess the ability to communicate effectively within a diverse team environment
Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a multi-cultural environment with co-workers, managers, and guests
Must demonstrate proof of full vaccination or provide documented medical reason, by a physician, for not being vaccinated

The duties of this job are performed in a fast-paced restaurant environment. Sometimes required to handle sharp objects such as knives. The work environment can be dimly lit and noisy. During busy periods, you are under pressure to attend to customers quickly and efficiently. The work is relatively safe, but care must be taken to avoid slips, falls, and burns.
